AMD will present 7nm CPUs and GPUs at CES 2019

We already knew that Lisa Su, the boss of AMD, would open the CES conference ball, which, like every year, would take place in Las Vegas at the beginning of January.

AMD will present the first new generation CPUs and 7-nanometer GPUs at the CES 2109. On January 9, 2019, AMD has planned a major press conference for the CES. The program was not hidden because it is planned to talk about engraving with the introduction of 7 nm. In the press release, AMD emphasizes that with new technologies it will be able to disrupt the world of computing, gaming and visualization and offer powerful solutions that open up new horizons.

At the moment there are no further technical details, but the date set by AMD is certainly interesting, especially considering that the usual competitor Intel is in a stalemate, far from solving the problems related to the production chain and the yield of the process at 10 nm.

According to the well-known roadmap, 7 nm should produce the Zen 2 architecture, not a Zen optimization, as with Zen+. AMD intends to thoroughly review its specimen by announcing advances in several areas and dimensions to a completely new design.

We don’t yet know what the chip family will look like. AMD is supposed to develop all its offerings from Epyc to Ryzen and Threadripper.

On the processor side, the CES 2019 will certainly be the starting window for the new EPYC chip servers “Rom”, which for the first time are based on a 7nm production process (TSMC) and the Zen-2 architecture: In the consumer desktop segment, the Ryzen 3000 series is eagerly awaited, but a presentation at CES 2019 would be somewhat ahead of the manufacturer’s usual schedule.

With such an announcement and the outstanding technical and commercial performance of the two generations of Ryzen processors, AMD is now benefiting from this momentum. And we’re waiting firmly for Intel’s answer.
