AirPlus is a new shell for Apple’s AirPods that retrofits wireless Qi charging for just $15. AirPlus is already financed by Kickstarter and can now be pre-ordered before an expected delivery date during July.
The charging case for Apple’s AirPods has a charging input for charging its small battery, which in turn charges the AirPods. That is where the AirPlus case comes in, that is plugged into the sockets and has a Qi charging function.
Apple also wants to develop a charging case for the AirPods itself that can be charged wirelessly, but just like the Airpower charging station, it is not yet on the market. The exact publication date is also not known.
The team behind AirPlus estimates that many customers will now prefer a cost-effective option to quickly add Qi functionality to their existing AirPods.
The AirPlus is not only designed to charge your AirPods wirelessly with Qi but also as a protective cover for drops, scratches, dust and water resistance. The wall thickness is 2.5 mm. The AirPlus is available in six different colors, including white, black, red, grey, pink gold and sky blue.
The user only has to pull the AirPlus over the charging case. It has a pairing button and an LED indicator, which you can use to check the charging status. A built-in belt holder allows the unit to be fastened so that it can be transported safely.
Tests have shown that charging the charging case with AirPlus takes just as long as with a Lightning cable. Users do not have to accept any loss of speed.
The AirPlus costs 15 US dollars. Later the price is to rise to 30 US dollars. Pre-orders will also receive a free loop for the AirPods for a limited time.
