UBeam Ultrasound Wireless Charging: For the first time, a video describes the working principle of UBeam, a technology currently of great interest to companies. UBeam promises a future where users can wirelessly charge their devices through the air. From a technical standpoint, this innovative technology employs ultrasonic charging, although there have been some controversies regarding its adherence to physical principles.

Recently, at the Upfront Summit in Los Angeles, UBeam’s founder and CEO, Meredith Perry, unveiled a demonstration of their ultrasonic charging technology.

The demonstration process unfolds as follows: A white box emits ultrasound, and Birrell stands a few yards away, holding a device. If the device aligns with the acoustic transmission route, it will flash red. Birrell then took out an Android smartphone, enclosed in a relatively large and heavy black shell, connected it to the transmission line, and the phone’s screen displayed its charging status.

Company representatives indicated that the final product will be a compact mobile phone shell. In appearance, the transmitter and model resemble designs from Apple and Nest. However, there’s no official release date available as of now.

While UBeam’s technology seems scientifically plausible, some challenges remain. The company might need to incorporate the technology into a disk-shaped device before offering it to consumers, or potentially create a ceiling-like panel for business customers, such as coffee shops. Birby mentioned that UBeam has recently integrated the technology into coin-sized chips.

Questions about the maximum charging distance for consumer devices, the advantages of wireless charging, and limitations on the types of devices remain unanswered.
