The CEO of AMD, Lisa Su, has made some interesting statements about the implications of the arrival of the new 7 nm EPYC processors in 2019.
AMD Executive Director Dr Lisa Su stated that the EPYC “will double performance per socket. Lisa Su gave CNBC an exclusive interview in which she analyzed AMD’s current financial report and the company’s 2019 guidelines.
AMD had an excellent 2018, according to data from its latest financial report, which is the best company since 2011 thanks to its Ryzen processors.
We know that the server market is extremely important for AMD, not just the sale of chips and graphics cards to mass consumers. Starting at minute 7.36, Lisa Su makes some statements about what she wants to achieve with the new generation of EPYC processors.
During the interview, AMD’s CEO commented: “We have made big bets. We are betting on the 7 nm and we are betting on a new innovation in combining these chips”.
“Our second generation of EPYC was developed to double the performance per socket: if you have such a performance focus, it has to be translated into better results. That’s how we’ll do it on the servers.”
The statements seem quite courageous, we speak of a 100% higher yield compared to the current generation of the EPYC. We have recently seen AMD prove its superiority by comparing its new EPYC platform with the Intel Xeon Platinum 8180M processor in the C-Ray tool.
