AMD used its event to announce its upcoming Phoenix Point and Strix Point APUs, which are expected to launch in 2023 and 2024, respectively. The new APUs are expected to offer high-performance thanks to Zen 4 and Zen 5 cores and integrated RDNA 3 graphics.
AMD Phoenix Point (APU) to launch in 2023 with Zen 4 cores and RDNA 3 GPUs
AMD has confirmed that its APUs Phoenix Point and Strix Point will power next-generation notebooks that have their own integrated graphics.
APUs Phoenix Point
In 2023, these APUs will be released with Zen 4-cores and integrated graphics RDNA 3. This generation of processors will be equipped with LPDDR5 and PCIe 5.0 memory, which will have a power consumption of 35W and 45W. We may learn more details at CES 2023, which will be held in January next year.
The 8-core, the 16-thread count will likely remain the norm for AMD’s APUs, with more reserved for the Dragon Range APUs aimed at high-performance notebooks.
Integrated RDNA 3 graphics will allow for a higher number of CUs, though AMD declined to provide details on how many units we’re talking about.
APU Strix Point
For 2024, AMD is preparing APUs with Zen 5 cores and integrated graphics with the same RDNA 3 architecture but improved.
These new APUs will feature a new L4 cache that will act as a system-level cache. Right now, we don’t know much more about the improvements that the RDNA 3+ integrated graphics will bring.
That’s all, for now. AMD also used Financial Analyst Day 2022 to show off what’s new with Ryzen and EPYC.
