The video service of Google, YouTube, relies on artificial intelligence to offer more advanced experiences in augmented reality on the smartphone. The green background service, still in beta for the moment, is somewhat promising.
You will soon be able to edit your videos very quickly on your mobile. Youtube puts on artificial intelligence, machine learning and augmented reality to offer a real alternative to the green background used by professionals. The first tests are rather convincing even if it is still far from perfect. However, the service is still limited to a handful of users in beta.
Augmented reality on YouTube: a pretty successful result
Is the swan field for the green background in the video? Classic in many professional productions, it may well disappear if this Google project is completed. The Mountain View company is working on a video editing technology that is removing its interest.
It will allow users to replace the back of a video in real time or almost. That is a system very similar to the filters that can be found on Snapchat or Instagram, even if the method is much more complicated. The summary posted by Youtube, however, is slightly clear: ” Our new segmentation technology allows creators to replace and modify the background. Thus effortlessly increasing the production value of videos without specialized equipment. ”
For now, this feature is related to the Stories format of Youtube. The first tests conducted by our colleagues in the American press show that it seems particularly compelling. It is the artificial intelligence that is used leaves some areas with a blur or halo effect. The result is, however, quite impressive.
An option to replace the green background in beta mode for the moment
For now, this feature is not yet planned for everyone. It is reserved for specific users as part of a beta. Above all, it applies only to the stories mode. The short-term ambition is precise to limit itself to this service.
But it would be surprising if the users are convinced, that it is deployed massively on the other functions of Google in augmented reality after that. Having already released the improved portrait mode to the AI on the Pixel 2 (still not found in France), this looks like a new logical step for the video platform.
However, it will take for the moment to make your trouble. If there is information that is currently missing from the presentation, it is a timeline. As a reminder, Google now relies mainly on ARCore to allow developers to propose new augmented reality. Facebook already offers a similar feature on its Facebook Live. If you can not replace the background yet. Also, it can blur to give the impression of depth of field. No doubt the innovation of YouTube could provide ideas for Mark Zuckerberg.
