With Windows 10, Microsoft has introduced the concept of cumulative updates. It is a system that proposes monthly “updates”, which contain all previously published patches. All are offered in one package.

By simplifying the updating of a system, this approach reduces it to the installation of only one update, it is also the origin of a negative side. The size of these updates increases from month to month.

Microsoft is aware of this problem and also responsible for so-called “delta” updates. They only contain changes that have been made since the last official maintenance. The size is therefore considerably reduced but requires a current PC for the installation of the latest versions. These delta updates are available until February 12, 2019.

Windows 10 Redstone 5, smaller, redistributable and easy to manage updates. Both these solutions are not perfect, so the giant will continue to develop its system. It is scheduled during the deployment of the next major development of Windows, Redstone 5, introducing a new type of update.

Its purpose was to speed up the installation and maintenance of Windows 10 PCs. In response to this question, the Registry shall determine the following quotes:

“Devices with the next major version of Windows 10 will be 40% more efficient to upgrade because there is no calculation of the optimal differences required to download express updates.”

These patches will be smaller, redistributable and easier to manage. Let’s see how they land via the Windows Update service.

The aspect of “redistributable” is important. Microsoft explains:

“This new update package will be redistributable. Companies using express updates via WSUS, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), or a third-party management solution that supports express updates will benefit from huge savings in bandwidth and network cache.”

Finally, a distribution is programmed in the form of.cab files and as a stand-alone update program (.MSU) from the Microsoft update catalog.

Windows 10 Redstone 5 will normally be completed in September. The launch for the general public is planned for October. It is quite possible that Redstone 5 will be called Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
