Windows 10, KB4089848 deploys, what’s new?

Microsoft has been offering a new cumulative update for Windows 10 for a few hours. Named KB4089848, it is intended for PCs running Fall Creators Update alias Windows 10 v1709.

Its installation allows the OS to progress to version 16299.334. The giant makes general improvements and some corrections. The goal is not safety but problem-solving. For example, we have a patch that should solve a communication problem with a Bluetooth device after a reboot.

Another patch attacks the Start menu which in some cases may reset when upgrading to Fall Creators Update. This problem has been known for several months and is relatively widespread. So Microsoft took its time.

In parallel KB4089848 provides solutions around the spell checking function with custom dictionaries. We have improvements regarding Edge browser support for PDF files and multimedia playback optimization. This last point also concerns Internet Explorer.

Unfortunately, there is a problem that is now known and not solved. It is possible that Windows Update History indicates a lousy installation of KB4089848 although this is not the case. In this case, just run “winver” to check the OS version number. If “16299.334” appears, everything is perfect.

Let us hope that KB4089848 is a correct update and that few installation problems arise.
