LG aims to impress us with its UltraGear 17G90Q with Intel Tiger Lake-H processors, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q that can be configured with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, a 17-inch IPS display with 1 ms and 300 Hz, and incredible performance. And if you are not convinced yet, wait until you see the design, because it is a real eye-catcher.
It has already won the Innovation Award at CES 2021, and the Korean brand had previously only produced LG Grams: efficient and powerful ultrabooks. The gaming challenge was there, so the UltraGear 17G90Q already has a release date and an official presentation, which features a lot of things that we tell you because this equipment is not to be missed.
LG UltraGear 17Q90Q with Intel and NVIDIA: “Life is beautiful”.
Sports journalist Andrés Montes used to say that “life can be wonderful”, while LG was more conservative and used the slogan “life is good”. It can be good with the LG UltraGear 17G90Q notebook, which will make its debut on the gaming notebook market in 2022 and whose specifications will make life difficult for the competitors.
In terms of performance, it’s powered by 11th-gen Intel Tiger Lake H CPUs, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q (less power consumption, less performance), 16 or 32 GB of dual-channel DDR4 RAM, and a configuration for 2 NVMe SSDs. However, the crowning glory is the display: 17-inch IPS panel with Full HD resolution, 1 ms response time, and 300 Hz refresh rate.
The notebook weighs less than 5.95 pounds (probably 2.64 KG) and is less than 21 mm thick, making it a competitor for the Razer Blade, MSI GS65 Stealth, ASUS ROG Strix Scar, and other powerful gaming notebooks. LG relies on an aluminum chassis and vapor chamber cooling to keep all components running at peak performance.
They have taken the opportunity to offer us their gaming optimization software LG UltraGear Studio: It allows us to customize gaming options, monitoring data, temperatures and CPU frequencies, TDP, GPU, or RAM memory usage; we can also customize RGB lighting per key.
Meanwhile, its 2 speakers are compatible with DTS:X Ultra for precise directionality and sound placement, helping us to have a greater immersion in the game. Intel Killer Wireless and WiFi 6E to connect to our network and take advantage of the maximum upload/download speed that our operator offers.
LG also listed two laptops with NVIDIA GPUs on its website today, but both are low-powered GTX 1650s. By comparison, the RTX 3080 inside the new UltraGear 17G90Q is the fastest GPU that NVIDIA currently offers for laptops, and other specs include a 1080p IPS display with a 300Hz refresh rate, a 93Wh battery, an RGB keyboard, a fingerprint sensor on the power button, and a 1080p webcam. Its casing is made of aluminum and the body color is purple-grey.
UltraGear 17G90Q, for ports, we have the following:
- 1 x USB 4 Type-C.
- 1 x USB 3.2 GEn 2×1 Type-C/DisplayPort.
- 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2×1.
- 1 x HDMI.
- 1 x RJ45.
- MicroSD and UFS card reader.
Not to mention the Full HD webcam with a dual microphone, which comes with iris recognition and a fingerprint reader on the power button. LG wanted to build a high-quality gaming notebook that we can go anywhere and play as if we were at home. To this end, a 93 Wh battery has been included, but the Koreans have not yet given any details about the autonomy we will have.
As far as we know, LG will launch this laptop in the first quarter of 2022, first in the US and South Korea, with the rest of the markets following later.
