Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) users can now download Ubuntu 18.04 from Microsoft Store. This version was officially announced earlier this month. This is the second evolution of Ubuntu available in this way. It is proposed alongside Ubuntu 16.04 and does not replace the existing. Microsoft engineer Tara Raj explains that the reason is to be found in the long-term support offered by Canonical.

In other words, as long as a version of Ubuntu is supported by Canonical, it will continue to be offered through the Microsoft Store. It is thus underlined

“The Ubuntu applications you see in the store are published by Canonical. We collaborate with them to publish applications and test them on WSL. According to Canonical’s LTS calendar, Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 are supported for 3 years.

Ubuntu 18.04 can also be installed on the Windows Subsystem for Linux of Windows 10. Note that the ARM version of Windows 10 also supports distribution. No changes are required. Simply download the distribution from the Microsoft Store to an ARM device.

The Ubuntu 18.04 distribution is available for download from the Microsoft Store.

Finally, in the case of Windows 10 and mode S, formerly called Windows 10 S, the operation is not possible.
