Twitter is planning to take legal action against Meta over the launch of the Threads app, which competes directly with the social network. In a letter, a Twitter lawyer alleges infringement of intellectual property rights by Meta. This dispute shows Elon Musk’s desire to avoid competition, especially as he seeks to make his recent costly acquisition profitable.
In addition, the attorney accused Meta of hiring former Twitter employees who had access to trade secrets and other confidential information, assigning them to develop Threads with the intention of speeding up its own application and violating state and federal laws.
Competition is fine, cheating is not

Andy Stone, Meta’s director of communications, responded to the allegations by saying that no Threads engineer is a former Twitter employee, suggesting that the app was created from scratch without the use of trade secrets. While Elon Musk expressed frustration with the competition, it is curious that he has not shown the same disapproval with other Twitter competitors such as Mastodon and Bluesky.

Elon Musk may recognize Threads as a “real” threat to Twitter, as Zuckerberg’s update reveals that the platform already has 30 million users on its first day, surpassing its competition.
The outcome of the legal proceedings in court is still uncertain should this situation materialize. Musk is likely to lose the judge’s favor because Meta’s engineers have created a solid competitor with greater user engagement.
