TLS 1.3 has been approved as a new Internet standard

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is an organization whose purpose is to approve the new Internet standards. Finally, after four years of development, they have already recommended the new rule, which comes under the name TLS 1.3. That is the latest version of this protocol, which is intended to allow secure connections to be established over the Internet.

Version 1.2 has been in force since 2008, so it has taken a long time for them to arrive with a new version. However, this development has not been without its problems, as 28 drafts have been needed until TLS 1.3 has become a reality.

What’s new with TLS 1.3

Security seems to be the primary weapon of this new protocol. Also, it has been announced that it will eliminate some insecure algorithms such as MD5 and SHA-224. Instead, new and safer ones like ChaCha20, Poly1305, Ed25519, x25519, and x448 will arrive. Also, connections can be made faster and more securely. It has also been said that it will not have a back door, although an attempt was made to include it at the time.

TLS 1.3 promises to change many things. Although less than 1% of the servers currently support this new standard. So it is still a long time before it becomes the most used and the most common on the market. That will continue to progress throughout this year.

At least we already know that the new protocol is a reality. Also, the process has taken a long time. But it comes with improvements and a lot of renovation. So we’ll have to wait if it works as well as it promises.
