One of the biggest complaints about Forza Horizon 3, in its PC version, was performance. The game was not only released on the Windows 10 Store but also required an important PC to play it at the highest quality and high frame rates (something like a GTX 1070 or higher to play it at 1080p and 60 FPS).

Forza Horizon 4 Creative Director Ralph Fulton said the game will have fewer system requirements than its predecessor, Forza Horizon 3, largely due to ForzaTech’s engine optimizations.

Forza Horizon 3 was the first franchise game that came to PC, with some initial problems. In the beginning, it was difficult to get the game up and running at more than 60 FPS, as the game faced CPU-related performance problems in certain areas of the game. Although this was later mitigated with a multi-threading patch, unfortunately, contributed to the bad reputation of the Windows 10 store and UWP game format.

While the official requirements for Forza Horizon 4 have not yet been released, let’s take a look at the minimum requirements for Forza Horizon 3 to get an impression.

  • CPU: i3-4170 at 3.7Ghz
  • Graphics Card: AMD R7 250x or NVIDIA GT 740
  • WORKING MEMORY: 8GB

Among the recommended requirements, the 2016 game required the following;

  • CPU: Intel Core i7 3820 at 3.6 GHz
  • NVIDIA GTX 1060
  • WORKING MEMORY: 12 GB

The “recommended” requirements are likely to be higher, as Forza Horizon 4 evolved graphically from two years ago and these requirements should be played at 30 FPS and not 60 FPS as you are used to today.

Forza Horizon 4 will be released on PC and Xbox One on October 2.
