The Japanese multinational company has not given much information about its new console. What we already know is that it will have an AMD Ryzen APU processor, AMD graphics with ray tracing, an SSD as a storage system, high sound quality and that it will be on the market by the end of 2020. Recently, some pictures of what would be the development kit for the machine were leaked, but they didn’t provide much information beyond the visuals.
In a report for GamesIndustry, the President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment reported that while the CPU, GPU and memory enhancements of the new Playstation are well known, there is still much to know.
What did Ryan say?
“Every time a new console is released, the processor and graphics get better. That’s attractive, of course, but we also need to have special additions. We’ve already confirmed the use of a solid state drive. Having minimal loading times is a big change. The controller’s 3D audio and haptic feedback support are also things that will surprise you when you try them out and see how big the changes are. Even playing the Gran Turismo Sport racing game with a PlayStation 5 controller is a completely different experience. While it works well with the previous controller, there’s no turning back after you’ve experienced the detailed road surface through the haptic controls with the custom triggers. But you know. There are more unique elements in PlayStation 5 that set it apart from previous consoles. The biggest differences are not yet known.”
While console gamers are very loyal, we think that Sony must play its cards very well, because if the Xbox turns out to be much better, as rumors say, the roles could be reversed in favor of Microsoft. Expectations for Sony’s new console are high and the fact that nothing is known about it is increasingly frightening.
