The AMD Radeon VII arrives with an average rating according to tests

The Radeon VII has been officially available for several hours. We are experiencing a paper introduction because the availability is very limited. The beauty is positioned by its price of 739 € compared to the GeForce RTX 2080 from Nvidia.

This is an important step for AMD because this Radeon VII offers a GPU engraved at 7 nm. Its mechanics is based on 3840 Stream Processors, 240 TMU and 64 ROP. The package contains 16 GB HBM2 RAM, which is operated via a 4096-bit bus.

The few examples suggest a reference design. AMD has revised this part like Nvidia with its current GeForce RTX 20 series. We are entitled to three fans and a rear panel. The device has HDMI 2.0b video outputs and three DisplayPorts 1.4. Finally, power is supplied via a 3.0 x 16 PCIe bus and two 8-pin PCIe connectors.

Unfortunately, the tests are rare. Also the presentation of the paper was not offered to all editors. For the advantages of opinions, comparisons and viewpoints, several of our foreign colleagues are at the origin of complete files. Here are some links. The AMD Radeon VII Noisy Cooling System

For Kitguru the results are mixed. This Radeon VII has the power to cover the need in 1440p. It is very compact and offers good GPU cooling. The cooling system is extremely noisy. The amount of RAM is impressive. Unfortunately, despite its price, it is below the GeForce RTX 2080 and at the same time exceeds the power consumption of the GeForce RTX 20180 Ti.

Tom’s hardware has basically the same opinion with good performance in 1440p / Full Option and a very generous amount of RAM. The addition of three games in packages makes it possible to make your price more competitive. Compared to the RTX 2080, its performance is below the level and its cooling is very noisy.

For Bit-tech, this Radeon VII is designed for 1440p with an acceptable 4K balance. However, it can’t compete with the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. The competitor is the RTX 2080, but at the price of an unprecedented power requirement. The results are therefore mixed, especially since noise is a factor.

Finally, the 16GB HBM2 is appreciated by Techpowerup, as are the performance improvements over the Radeon RX Vega 64 and the presence of three bundled games. However, we find the same verdict against the GeForce RTX 2080 with declining performance for higher fuel economy and a lot of noise.
