Another news from SpaceX. It’s only been a month since SpaceX launched a Falcon Heavy into Mars orbit with a peculiar charge inside. That is, the rocket was carrying a Tesla Roadster that is now in space. We may not have to wait long to see the BFR in action, as Elon Musk himself has commented that the first short test flights as part of the mission to Mars could begin in 2019.
SpaceX will start testing in 2019 the rocket it plans to send to Mars
These are statements that have taken place during the SXSW. There will be an event in which the CEO of companies such as Tesla, SpaceX, and SolarCity (among others) has given a talk. Despite the mention of the year 2019 as the starting date, Musk wanted to emphasize. That it is a slightly optimistic date, so it would not be surprising if it were finally delayed. Even so, we remember that the company’s goal is to send manned missions to Mars for the year 2022.
At this point, it is interesting to remember that the so-called BFR ( big fucking rocket ) has been designed to be completely reusable. So, it means that it will be able to travel to Mars. And return to Earth without any problems. Specifically, the rocket will be capable of transporting up to 150 tons of equipment. So, it is five times more than the company’s Falcon Heavy.
Initially, SpaceX expects to send cargo during the first missions in 2022. Although eventually, the idea is to send people along with their personal belongings with the ultimate goal of setting up a human colony on the red planet. As always, we will remain attentive to any news related to the company.
