According to rumors, Sony would try to diversify its console portfolio, offering the PlayStation 5 base and the Pro model right from the start.
The PlayStation 5 is a year away and rumors are slowly taking shape. After unveiling the possible development kit, Sony is expected to release two versions of the console: PS5 and PS5 Pro.
The information comes from Japanese journalist Zenji Nishikawa (via Wccftech), who has a history of successful leaks, most recently with the announcement of the Nintendo Switch Lite. According to Nishikawa, Sony would offer the base model and the Pro version at the same time to empower those looking for a powerful console from the outset.
The Japanese company would change the strategy of this generation by launching the PlayStation 4 Pro as an upgrade with better hardware for PlayStation VR games. The gap between the base PS4 and PS4 Pro was three years, while Microsoft released the Xbox One X four years later than the original Xbox One.
Sony would diversify its console offering from the start
The rumor of a PlayStation 5 Pro with a simultaneous start to the normal model doesn’t sound far-fetched. Sony would follow the path taken by Microsoft by diversifying its console offering into the current generation and targeting the most powerful model – Xbox One X – at those seeking the full 4K experience.
Sony would make adjustments to the original PlayStation 5 hardware, which is known to include an AMD processor with 8 cores and 16 processing threads, a GPU with similar performance to the Radeon RX 5700T and support for RayTracing, and an SSD M.2 NVMe. The console uses the 7nm Zen 2 architecture found in the Ryzen 3000 series processors.
The PlayStation 5 launch date is not confirmed, except that it will arrive at the end of 2020, with an announcement that could take place in New York early next year. The console will be one of the key players at E3 2020, where we can certainly confirm this rumor.
