Sony Interactive Entertainment Acquires iSIZE
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the Sony division responsible for PlayStation, has announced the acquisition of a prominent company specializing in artificial intelligence.
iSIZE is a British company with expertise in deep learning applied to video streaming. Their artificial intelligence solutions promise to enhance the quality of transmissions in the media and entertainment industry.
iSIZE has developed solutions that enable high-resolution content streaming with significantly lower bitrates. Sony plans to leverage this expertise to enhance research and development as well as video services.
This move by SIE is one of the first significant steps following the leadership change announcement, as executive Jim Ryan is set to retire from Sony in 2024.
iSIZE, a London-based company founded in 2016 by a group of engineers specializing in video optimization, has joined Sony with the aim of strengthening the quality and stability of PlayStation’s streaming services. Specific details of this collaboration have not yet been disclosed.
This agreement could have a significant impact on both the new PlayStation 5 cloud gaming streaming system for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers and Sony Pictures Core, the studio’s movie streaming service.
