Snapdragon XR2 5G: Qualcomm plans to conquer VR, AR and MR at the same time

In one of Qualcomm’s recent announcements, the company introduced one of its latest creations to the world. This is the Snapdragon XR2 5G virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) platform reference model.

It consists of a variety of VR, RA and MR lenses designed to take full advantage of the capabilities of the Snapdragon XR2 5G. So by integrating this chip, they can lay the foundation for companies interested in this area of development to see all the creative opportunities available to them for this year 2020.

Compared to the Snapdragon 835 – the latest performance for VR, AR, and MR – the XR2 5G can deliver twice the performance of its CPU and GPU.

In addition, the quality of video bandwidth increases four times over the previous generation. In addition, the screen resolution is up to 6 times better than the last delivery. This is because the reference equipment has the 3Kx3K function, which means that 3,000 pixels of resolution is available for each eye.

The system of reference models also has a Snapdragon X55 5G modem that allows connection to the low-latency 5G networks offered by the Ericsson platform. In addition, native support is complemented by a basic sub-6 GHz connection and 5G millimeter waves.

Furthermore, the reference models show that the chip is capable of operating and coordinating up to 7 cameras. The distribution is done by two internal cameras for individual gaze tracking, another 4 external cameras are perfectly suited for AR and MRI experiences.

In addition, a final camera can be activated to track the face, lips or driver. On the other hand, the sound system is designed to work with 3D audio, which creates a more immersive experience.

With this announcement, Qualcomm shows what it intends to do in 2020. It also marks a direction of development that large technology companies can take to achieve the new goals proposed by Qualcomm.
