Qualcomm’s new development kit, the company’s hardware, and software breakthrough unlock the full potential of the Snapdragon 845 mobile virtual reality platform to support VR mobile application developers in creating immersive virtual reality experiences.
QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON 845 VR: STAND-ALONE HMD VIEWER AND SDK IN A NEW DEVELOPMENT KIT
The announcement was officially made at the Game Developers Conference (GDC). Although we were expecting it a few weeks earlier at MWC 2018.
The San Diego-based company presented a new virtual reality development kit that includes a standalone wireless VR viewer (HDM). And a new software development kit (SDK) for the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 VR mobile platform. Qualcomm’s new VRDK solution (which stands for Virtual Reality Developer Kit) is designed to support a new generation of mobile virtual reality applications.
“In the field of virtual reality, content is important for an immersive experience. So we are excited to provide developers with access to our new Snapdragon 845 mobile virtual reality platform through development kits. That will help them create truly immersive experiences,” said Hiren Bhinde, director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

In addition to the Snapdragon 845 Mobile VR Platform. The new display also incorporates an AMOLED screen with QHD resolution (2560 × 1440 pixels, or 1280 x 1440 pixels per eye at 60 Hz). Also, there is 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal memory, four cameras. While two of which are for eye tracking (Tobii technology) aimed inwards, and various sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope…).
The HMD helmet supports six degrees of freedom and Roomscale technology. Which can locate the position of the body in the room? Thus offering greater freedom of movement, without using additional sensors and without having to be connected to a PC. In essence, a real VR autonomous experience. Snapdragon 845 VR Features
The new Snapdragon 845 VR will feature Adreno 630 graphics, an upgrade to the Snapdragon 835’s Adreno 540 GPU launched last year for a variety of reasons. The GPU is 30% faster, has 30% higher energy efficiency and doubles display throughput.
