Qualcomm keeps making progress in the 5G arena and leaves us with the new 5G modem, the Snapdragon X60. It is faster and more efficient than today’s modems, as the company itself said in its announcement, but we will have to wait a while before it is officially launched. This new modem is built on a 5mm architecture.
Qualcomm is introducing its new 5G modem: Snapdragon X60
Versatility is one of the keys to this modem from the American manufacturer, which tries to make it usable for all kinds of users.
The Snapdragon X60 can be used in both mmWave and sub-6 GHz networks, including the lower frequency bands, which is one of the aspects that gives it this versatility. In addition, as Qualcomm said, it supports both NA and NSA options, with the ability to use them for higher speeds.
In addition, the new antenna is smaller and takes up less space, so the phones that use it benefit from its design and are more comfortable for manufacturers. The tests conducted show speeds of 7Gbps in download and 3Gbps in the upload.
Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon X60, its new 5G modem for ‘premium’ smartphones
It is expected that manufacturers will test the Snapdragon X60 before the end of this year, although it will not be available on the market until 2021. At least that’s what Qualcomm said at the launch, a rather long wait in this regard until this brand-name 5G modem is released.
And Apple is teaming up with Qualcomm to make this possible for the first time, with the Snapdragon X55 being the modem of choice for the terminals being introduced this year. The newly announced Snapdragon X60 will be shipped for testing later this year, but it won’t be until 2021 that the first premium smartphones will be shipped with this device, which will also be included in the next-generation smartphone from Cupertino.
