SK Hynix has announced its Gold P31 and Platinum P31 PCIe NVMe SSDs
SK Hynix served as a major component supplier to several OEM computer manufacturers over the past decade, but the recent introduction of the SuperCore Gold S31 series, a SATA SSD, marked the company’s entry into the U.S. consumer market.
The company will introduce two new PCIe NVMe SSDs aimed at those seeking higher performance for multimedia processing and gaming. Both devices will be manufactured with the company’s latest 128-layer ‘4D NAND’ flash. The new flash is coming onto the market quite quickly, as SK Hynix announced just six months ago.
SK Hynix did not disclose further details on SSDs. The company designs and manufactures DRAM, NAND and SSD controllers in-house, which gives it an advantage over many competitors who use standard components. As a DRAM manufacturer, it is unlikely that the design of the SSD controller will be cacheless, but we are still waiting for comments on certain aspects.
In fact, Hynix will be presenting these two 128-layer NVMe 4D NAND SSDs at CES, where we will know more about their specifications, price and launch date.
