Silicon Power has announced a new portable external SSD unit with a curious round shape that resembles a UFO, this new SSD Bolt B80 unit can be purchased in capacities of 120, 240 and 480GB with measures of just 75 x 75 x 11.9 mm.

The new Bolt B80 connects to our computers via a USB 3.1 Gen 2 type C port, yielding 500MB / s of reading and 450MB / s of writing being compatible with Windows 10 / 8.1 / 8/7 / Vista / XP, Mac, and Linux. A performance that has nothing to envy to most internal SATA 3 SSD drives.
The body has been manufactured in aluminum. And has passed rigorous tests of falls, besides obtaining IP68 certification against dust and water. Finally, the new unit is offered with the SP Widget that offers solutions of Backup and restoration of data. That is next to AES encryption of 256 bits and saved in the cloud.

Obviously, this unit has been designed for professional environments. And although the price has not yet been confirmed we assume that it will be considerably higher than a conventional SSD of similar capacity.
But that’s not all because it meets the requirements of MIL-STD-810G 516.7 Procedure IV. Which means that the casing can withstand a drop of 1.22 meters and also provides waterproof IP68. Its purpose is to make a fast and secure copy of data while awakening in others.
