Security updates for Edge on Windows 7 will continue until mid 2021

In a new article on Microsoft Docs, the Redmond-based company announced the deadline by which it will support Microsoft Edge for various operating systems.

Microsoft will support Edge on Windows 7 until July 2021

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 will continue to support updates to new versions of Microsoft Edge until July 15, 2021. However, versions of Windows 10 1507, 1511, 1607, and 1703 are not included in this list. Windows 10 LTSC and 1709 versions and later, Windows Server 2012 and later, and Windows 8.1 are on the list of supported operating systems.

Of course, Microsoft also encourages you to migrate to new, existing operating systems for security reasons.

It’s not too hard to understand why Microsoft is doing the same thing with Edge as Windows 10 itself: gradually removing old versions from the list of supported operating systems to ensure that users are always up to date. Of course, this is not a bad thing and will help Microsoft save time and manpower to focus more on the better.

For macOS, Microsoft will support Edge for versions of macOS Sierra 10.12 and higher. For iOS and mobile Android platforms, they will be more generous if they support both iOS 11.0 and Android 4.4 and above. Unfortunately, they support laptops that use the Chromebook platform. A recent report from Netmarketshare showed that Microsoft Edge beat Mozilla Firefox to become the second-largest browser in the world. This is obviously good news for Microsoft after it gave up its EdgeHTML to move to the Chromebook platform.
