Samsung is launching the new portable SSD T5 EVO, marking Samsung’s first external SSD to offer a capacity of 8 TB.
Samsung T5 EVO: The First 8 TB External SSD from Samsung
Samsung is expanding its lineup of external SSDs, joining other products such as the Samsung T7 Shield and the T9. This new T5 SSD comes in a compact size, but its storage capacity will be appreciated by users who need to back up large amounts of content, such as videos, images, games, etc.
The disk connects via USB-C, and such a large storage capacity comes with a trade-off, which is the read and write speed.
The Samsung T5 EVO boasts read and write speeds of up to 460 MB/s, which is below the T7 Shield and T9 speeds of 1,050 MB/s and 2,000 MB/s, respectively.
The unit is available in three capacities, 2 TB, 4 TB, and 8 TB, all with the same read and write speeds and compatibility with 256-bit AES encryption. Samsung ensures that the T5 EVO can withstand falls of up to 2 meters, and the unit comes with a warranty of approximately three years.
The T5 EVO is compatible with Windows and macOS computers, smartphones, tablets, and gaming consoles.
Price and Launch
The 2 TB model will cost around $189.99, the 4 TB model is priced at $349.99, and the 8 TB model is $649.99. Shipments will begin on November 21.
