Ryzen Embedded V2000, new generation with TDPs between 10W-54W

There are indications for the next generation of AMD Ryzen Embedded V2000 processors. AMD Zen 3 architecture is coming, but in the embedded processor segment, AMD is still stuck in the initial 14nm Zen, with a life cycle too extended to 10 years.

These chips are embedded SoCs and include the following models:

  • Ryzen Embedded V2748
  • Ryzen Embedded V2718
  • Ryzen Embedded V2516
  • Ryzen Embedded V2546

They are all SoCs with Zen 2 CPU cores with Vega architecture graphics. The power consumption range of the thermal design is 10-54W, an increase over the 15-45W of the previous generation, but the distribution of the different models is no longer the same, including two high-performance versions and two low power versions.

The first generation of these AMD Ryzen Embedded V1000 chips used first-generation Zen cores in combination with Vega graphics, all housed in a 14nm node. The new Ryzen Embedded V2000 models would leap to 7nm and Zen 2 CPU architecture. These will significantly increase the IPC and overall performance compared to the first generation.

The Ryzen Embedded V2748 and Ryzen Embedded V2718 are processors with 8 cores and 16 threads. The V2748 will have a 35W-54W TDP and a 2.9 GHz CPU clock, with a maximum turbo of 4.15 GHz. The V2718 will have a 10W-25W TDP, with a basic clock of 1.7 GHz and a turbo of 4.15 GHz. The graphics are Vega 7.

AMD has managed to increase the base clock by 200 MHz compared to the V27XX line. All these models will support dual-channel DDR4 memory and also four-channel LPDDR4X.

In terms of release time, the Rui Long embedded V2000 series is expected to be introduced in the fourth quarter of this year, but some models will be delayed until the first quarter of 2021, but at the moment there is still a lot of uncertainty regarding the new corona epidemic.
