RTX 4070/4080/4090 rumored to launch in Q3 2022

In a tweet from leaker kopite7kimi, he hints that Nvidia’s next-generation cards, the RTX 4090, 4080, and RTX 4070, could be released in the third quarter of 2022. These leaks are hard to believe based on how little data we have on these products right now, but the timeline confirms that Nvidia’s RTX 30 series launched over a year ago and the show must go on, and for Nvidia that means developing and then releasing its next-gen RTX cards, whether that means they’ll be good for gamers or miners is another matter entirely.

It is unclear if this timeframe is for the actual announcement or the launch. After the announcement, we’ll have to wait about two months for them to arrive.

Earlier rumors pointed to an October 2022 launch date for the Ampere successor, codenamed Lovelace. If the latest rumors are true, it’s possible that Nvidia has changed its roadmap by at least a few months.

It is expected that Nvidia’s Lovelace cards will be built on TSMC’s N5 node and could offer double the performance of existing Series 30 cards, albeit at the cost of higher power consumption. Another well-known leaker, Greymon55, recently said that the next-generation GPU could be twice as powerful as current cards.
