Redstone 5 will probably be called Windows 10 October 2018 update

The nomenclature of Windows 10 updates has often been criticized. Especially the nearly three Creators updates caused incomprehension and confusion. The names of the feature updates were not uniform and seemed to follow an arbitrary, less creative nomenclature.

Since the Windows 10 April 2018 update, Microsoft seems to have chosen a cool, simple name for the updates. Originally the last update was supposed to be called “Spring Creators Update”, for which the company received a lot of criticism.

The company seems to want to maintain this nomenclature. According to Microsoft insiders behind the Twitter account WalkingCat, Redstone 5 will bear the official name “Windows 10 October 2018 Update”. This would ensure a uniform nomenclature for Windows 10 feature updates at least in 2018. This naming is also advantageous for users, as they know when the update was released.

At the moment, these plans are likely to be correct at Microsoft. But since the release is still a bit to come, this can of course still change. Windows fans had started a petition a few weeks ago demanding that Windows 10 updates be named after dog breeds. However, this wish is unlikely to come true.
