The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is the latest high-end processor of the American company. That will be the engine of much high-end equipment that will arrive on the market during 2018. A processor that has already given to speak in the reference tests, even before reaching the market officially. But as always, the 845 is just coming out and is already talking about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 could be the first SoC to 7nm
This processor must be presented, at best, by the end of this year. This taking as an example the fact that the Snapdragon 845 was made official in December 2017.
However, the world of technology is a bottomless pit regarding the news. Every year we have new equipment, and that brings us to a tide of rumors, some of them end up being a reality, others not.
Indeed, it is now speculated that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, will be manufactured at 7nm, this will result in a cheaper and more powerful processor than its predecessor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845.
It is important to remember that the Snapdragon 845 is manufactured by Samsung with 10nm lithography. With a small variation of the process adopted in 2017 for the development of the Snapdragon 835. That will result in a 10% more powerful processor and 15% more efficient.
The Snapdragon 855 should be the first high-end processor that will be developed for lithography at 7nm. With this process, it is believed that it will be possible to create a new SoC with a 37% increase in its performance.
As for the company that will produce the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 there is still no official information. However, the specialized press believes that TSMC will be responsible for the construction of this processor. To be accurate, after two years, Samsung will lose the development of one of the most popular SoCs in the world.
