The Santa Cruz project is a high-end virtual reality helmet from Oculus. By combining the autonomy of the Oculus Go and the power of the tear, the helmet could appear soon.
With the Go, Oculus has shown that it is possible to offer a complete stand-alone virtual reality headset at an affordable price. However, the Oculus Go is still somewhat limited in performance. Oculus’ high-end stand-alone helmet project, known as Santa Cruz is expected to offer the potential of the Oculus Rift as well as its controllers in a stand-alone version without a PC or cable. The helmet, whose name is still unknown will be released in the first quarter of 2019.
Santa Cruz Project: release in the first quarter of 2019?
It was our American colleagues from the Online Virtual Reality Journal Upload VR who published the information. As our colleagues claiming to have crossed the information near several independent sources, the outcome of the helmet known as Santa Cruz would be in the first quarter of 2019. When he was contacted, the spokesman of Facebook’s virtual reality subsidiary neither confirmed or denied the information and limited himself to making an appointment for the Oculus Connect conference on September 26 next year.
Last year Oculus had already mentioned Oculus Connect 4, which was presented as a helmet with the same functions as the Rift, but in an autonomous version. According to various sources, Oculus is also working on adapting the catalog of games and applications from Rift to Santa Cruz. There is no doubt that we will have to wait until 26 September in order to know the technical characteristics of the future helmet and certainly also its name and perhaps the price of this autonomous high-end helmet.
