Tomb Raider is one of the games that game veterans remember particularly well. A heroine and the impressive 3D perspective – even including a patch for the first 3D accelerator maps – made Lara Croft a pop icon with appearances in music videos and on magazine covers. The hype continues to this day: in mid-April, the new Lara actress Alicia Vikander is shooting and puzzling in the cinema.

The first three parts of the game series now get a revised PC version. The classics, which have been available on Steam since 2012, are even VR-compatible thanks to a remaster with a new 3D engine. The developers of Realtech VR dock to Valves OpenVR interface. Accordingly, the new Lara can be played with Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality VR glasses.

The PC-Remaster from Tomb Raider is not based on the technical framework of the current series parts, but on the smartphone version for Android and iOS produced by the same developer. The new editions of Tomb Raider 1 and two are already finished, the developers are still working on part 3.

Owners of the classic DOS versions on Steam get the Remaster version for free. Currently, each of the three original parts emulated via DOSbox costs 6.99 Euro each. The Remaster version will be based on the existing files and should therefore also only be available on Steam.
