Nvidia, the AI chipmaker, is setting up the B30 chip, its new AI bet for the Chinese market

Nvidia would bet on the B30, its new AI chip for China, with demand anticipated to be “massive.”

Nvidia B30: The secret weapon to conquer China’s AI market

Nvidia’s upcoming chip, designed specifically for the Chinese market, the “Blackwell” B30, is rumored to be a cost-effective AI solution that could dominate the inference market despite being less powerful than its predecessors.

Nvidia’s last AI accelerator for China, the H20, was a version tailored to meet U.S. export restrictions. Now, the company is preparing a successor, the B30, which, although speculated to be 25% slower than the H20, is generating enormous buzz.

According to industry leaks, Chinese technology giants are already interested in acquiring millions of these units before the end of the year.

The Chinese market would be urgently looking for a cost-effective inference solution, as the expensive model training phase has already been done with more powerful chips such as the H100. The B30 would be ideal for small and medium-sized AI models, enabling Chinese cloud service providers to offer low-cost computing to their customers.

This new chip will not aim to be a high-end accelerator, but an economical and efficient option. It is estimated that the B30 will be 30% more energy efficient and will cost 40% less than the H20. This price reduction could be due to the replacement of expensive HBM memory with GDDR7 modules.

Meanwhile, Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, suffers from the complex geopolitical landscape and maintains its presence in China with GPU models that comply with import restrictions in this market. We will keep you updated on all the news.
