Almost all current AMD and Nvidia graphics use GDDR6 memory, so GDDR5 memory is no longer being produced, creating bottlenecks to continue production of GTX 1650, the only Nvidia Turing graphics that use this older type of memory. For this reason, Nvidia will finally migrate the GTX 1650 to GDDR6, ensuring sufficient resources for production.
This information has been officially confirmed by an Nvidia spokesperson at PC Gamer, who mentioned: “The industry is running out of GDDR5, so let’s make the transition to GDDR6”.
With this change, the entire line of Turing graphics will be using GDDR6, as the GTX 1650 was the only model released with GDDR5. The GTX 1650 Super and all its predecessors have been using GDDR6 since its introduction, so there are no problems with these models.
There are no details as to when we’ll see these new versions on the market, although we expect there won’t be much left when manufacturers start adding models.
