These two names suggest that the giant will attack the gaming markets but not only. This launch could also give rise to new offers for the HPC and AI segment.

The GTC 2018 has closed its doors, and despite rumors, Nvidia has not revealed anything new in the field of graphics cards for players. The GTX 10 series range, therefore, remains current with the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti as its showcase. However, this event provided some interesting information from Nvidia and its partners.

GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070, 8 and 16 GB GDDR6?

Changes usually are well planned this year. More precisely, the next GeForce GTX 1180 and 1170 should land next July with GDDR6 at 16 Gbit/s and 8 and 16 GB capacities at the heart of their engines. As a result, the name GTX 2000 series would no longer be relevant. The GDDR6 should equip the majority if not the totality of these innovations. That would include the upcoming GeForce GTX 11 series focused on gaming and the future Tesla and Quadro references for other markets including AI.

SK Hynix confirmed that GDDR6 is scheduled to go into production at the end of June. That would position the official announcement of the GeForce GTX 11 series around July.

This new memory will operate at 1.35V with the promise of doubling the speed of GDDR5. The downside is that it is estimated to cost 20% more than the current GDDR5. It is not impossible that the pricing of Nvidia’s next novelties will be slightly revised upwards.

SK Hynix also confirmed that 1GB and 2GB GDDR6 chips are planned. This accuracy suggests that the GeForce GTX 1180 and GTX 1170 can be equipped with 8GB and 16GB capacities.
