Microsoft is finalizing the next major update of Windows 10 with the code name Redstone 4, which would finally be released under the official name Windows 10 April 2018 Update. After a delay in its launch due to BSOD issues, several Reddit users claim that a new error causes the configuration application to crash.
Configuration application has problems with Windows 10 April 2018 Update
The configuration application crashes without any errors when you try to change the default applications, which there is no solution for at this time. Apparently, the error appears in several systems, suggesting that this is a relatively widespread problem.
This problem only affects systems running Build Windows 10 17134, although not all users seem to be experiencing it. If your PC is running Build 17134, you can verify the error by starting the Setup and navigating to Applications > Default Applications > Set Defaults by Application. As soon as you click “Set Defaults by Application”, the Settings application will crash. This is one of the worst UWP applications as there is no easy way to track the error.
For now, there is no official solution available, although restarting the system several times solves the problem for some users. This error should not be a significant problem for Microsoft, as the company could efficiently address it with a cumulative update. However, it could delay the release of the Windows 10 April 2018 update, scheduled for later this month.
We will have to wait a while to find out the solution to this new problem, and whether it means a further delay in releasing the update.
