The rumor appeared last April and this mysterious Core i7-8086K lands on several online stores. It has the originality to propose a new step for desktop processors. Its frequency reaches 5 GHz.
This Core i7-8086K is an anniversary processor. It is common for builders to celebrate certain milestones in their history. Intel, for example, marked the 20th anniversary of the Pentium brand with the launch of a special edition embodied by the Pentium G3258. This year will be the 40th anniversary of the firm’s 8086 processor. Indeed, Intel launched its iAPX 86 aka the Intel 8086 in 1978. This was the giant’s most important step because this processor architecture was later the most widespread in the personal PC world.
This anniversary is, therefore, the occasion to mark the occasion with the arrival of a special edition, the Core i7-8086K. If last April we were still in the field of rumors, things are becoming clearer. Several online shops have just launched pre-orders.
This Core i7-8086K comes in LGA 1151 format. Everything suggests that we are in the presence of a Coffee Lake reference with 6 physical cores and 12 logical cores. It is indeed referenced as belonging to the Core 8th generation range.
Its originality is to propose a first with a Boost mode at 5 GHz for a base frequency at 4 GHz. Its mechanics include a 12 MB cache and the thermal envelope, the famous TDP is calibrated at 95 Watts. Finally, its name uses the letter “K” synonymous with the unlocked multiplier coefficient.
On the price side, we are on a positioning at 480 dollars. As far as its formalization by Intel is concerned, Computex 2018 is a good opportunity.
