In the PC SSD segment, Mushkin Source is positioning itself on the mainstream offering. It is not about excellence and high pricing or entry-level. Its battle horse is the price/performance ratio. On this point, Brian Flood, Director of Product Development at Mushkin Enhanced MFG is clear.

“The ultimate balance between value, capacity, and performance, the Source Series exploits all the expected benefits of an SSD without breaking the bank.

These SSDs are available in 2.5 inch or M.2 2280 (22 mm wide, 80 mm long) sizes. In both cases, the interface is SATA 6 Gb/s. They are available in capacities ranging from 120GB to 1TB and from 250GB to 500GB.

On the performance side, we have maximum data rates of 560 MB/s in sequential read versus 520 MB/s in the sequential write. In 4K file manipulation, the scores are 75k and 81k in random read and write.

Their mechanics are based on the NAND Flash 3D operated by a Silicon Motion SM2258XT controller. Several security features are present under the term MEDS marketing.

Announced with a three-year warranty, this Source Series SSD is now available in a 2.5-inch format. Version M.2 is expected in April. Although Mushkin talks about competitive rates, no price is specified, too bad.
