At the beginning of October, we told you about a supposed folding phone that Microsoft is developing and codenamed it as Andromeda. Back then we had some concrete clues found in .appx files, so it wasn’t just ‘gossip’. Now the rumors are coming back with more intensity, and everything points to the new Microsoft device finally arriving in 2019.
It’s been several months since we last heard about Microsoft’s Andromeda folding smartphone, but according to a book titled “Beneath a Surface” by Bard Sams (former editor of Neowin), the technology company will surprise us with an innovative device in 2019.
The book tells a story about a tablet that folds and behaves like a smartphone. However, Microsoft will not use the old normal Windows Phone operating system, which has been dead for some time. It’s said to offer a full Windows experience with at best minor excerpts.
The book also talks about other devices that Microsoft is planning for 2019. It was a new Xbox One console, surface laptops with AMD chips instead of Intel, redesigns for Surface Studio and a direct competitor of the iPad Pro 12.9 with USB-C port and rounded corners on the screen.
A hybrid folding table smartphone would be a truly innovative design if it is true. The year 2019 is just around the corner and probably soon we’ll hear from Andromeda. We’ll keep you updated regarding this new device.
