August 4, according to foreign media reports, the semiconductor company MediaTek anticipates the third quarter of 2020, the company is expected to increase revenues by up to 30% from the loop.
MediaTek expects its sales in the third quarter of 2020 to reach NT$82.5-87.9 billion (USD 2.77-2.79 billion), a 22% – 30% higher QoQ than in the previous quarter (NT$67.603 billion), which is well above market expectations as the company expects deliveries of all its product lines (especially the Dimensity series 5G SoCs) to deliver growth.
The company also expects its gross profit margin in the third quarter to be in the range of 41.5 to 44.5 percent, roughly the same level as in the second quarter.
MediaTek’s financial report for the second quarter of 2020, released at the end of July, showed that the company’s second-quarter revenues were NT$67.603 billion ($16.1 billion), 9.8 percent higher than in the previous year; net income was NT$7.31 billion ($1.74 billion), 12.4 percent higher than in the previous year; and the gross margin was 43.5 percent, 0.4 percentage points higher than in the previous quarter. It increased by 1.6 percentage points in the same period last year.
In the first half of 2020, MediaTek’s revenues increased by 12.4 percent year-on-year to NT$128.46 billion, while net income increased by 33.33 percent year-on-year to NT$13.114 billion, with an average gross profit margin of 43.31 percent.
According to industry sources, MediaTek expects full-year revenue growth of at least 15 percent, twice as much as originally anticipated.
MediaTek is a semiconductor company focused on technologies such as wireless communications and digital multimedia, and the company offers integrated system-on-a-chip solutions that include wireless communications, high-definition digital television, optical storage, DVD and Blu-ray and other related products.
Last month, the company unveiled a new 5G smartphone processor, the Dimensity 720, which is manufactured using TSMC’s 7nm process and includes a low-power 5G modem. Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, and other mobile phone manufacturers are reported to use this processor.
The Dimensity 720 is MediaTek’s fourth 5G smartphone processor, the other three are the Dimensity 1000, Dimensity 800 and Dimensity 820.
