The Magic Leap One is now available, and its creator introduces five native applications developed by its own mixed-reality eyewear development team. These five programs show the technical possibilities of the device and the various applications of mixed reality.
Since August 8, 2018, the Magic Leap One Mixed Reality Helmet is finally available in the USA. After almost eight years of waiting, the product appeared on the market quite suddenly. The American company had announced that its product would be available before the end of summer 2018, however, the exact date had remained secret until D-Day. At the moment the first tests and opinions on the Magic Leap One are somewhat mixed.
But above all the content available makes the Magic Leap One an indispensable device or a nasty gadget. In addition to the device, Magic Leap also presented five applications developed by its own Magic Leap Studio development team. These five applications are now natively installed on the Magic Leap One and will be available soon. As a reminder: Only a technical demonstration was presented to the public at the start. This is the first real overview of the content offered on this mixed reality helmet.
Project Create, an application for the artistic design of Magic Leap One
Project Create is an application that allows Magic Leap One users to let their creativity run free in mixed reality. Here your real surroundings become a canvas on which you can paint freely. A bit like Tilt Brush for virtual reality, this software lets you express your inspiration with surrealistic tools of all kinds. It is also possible to arrange and stage the characters to tell stories. In short, the intuitive and accessible software is designed for artists and creators.
Dr. Grordbort’s Invaders, the first video game from Magic Leap One
Dr. Grordbort’s Invaders is a video game for Magic Leap One. Evil robots from the planet Robots penetrate the earth in your room, and your task is to stop them with a laser gun. Robots appear through vortices that are realistically integrated into walls and floors.
The player must hide behind his furniture to avoid enemy fire. Though the gameplay of this game is not very original, still it is an impressive technical demonstration that takes full advantage of the CPU and GPU capabilities of Magic Leap One.
Cast & Avatar Chat, the social application of Magic Leap One
This application, which will be available soon, will allow Magic Leap One users to share their mixed reality with each other. By participating in a chat room, users can see the real environment of their interlocutors in real time. It will also be possible to share content and applications. In short, this software allows users to reach each other in the same room despite the distance separating them.
The customizable avatars are very realistic and reproduce hand movements or facial expressions in real time thanks to Magic Leap One’s various tracking technologies. This is an application that is no different than Facebook Spaces, in a mixed reality version.
Helio, web browsing mixed in reality
The Helio application allows you to take 3D objects from websites and integrate them into the real world. The aim is to transform surfing the Internet into an interactive spatial experience. It is possible to create virtual 3D replicas of everything and of anyone.
We believe this application is the most interesting of the five applications presented by Magic Leap and aims to take the Web into the mixed reality era. In fact, several large companies have already teamed up with Magic Leap to take advantage of Helio’s capabilities. For example, Wayfair allows its customers to view virtual furniture by placing it in their homes. The New York Times has also begun to explore new ways of storytelling through 3D images.
Tónandi, a musical application developed with Sigur Rós
Developed in collaboration with Sigur Rós, Tónandi is a musical application for Magic Leap One, inspired by the music of the famous Icelandic rock band. It is an audio-visual experience, presented as a new way to enjoy music through mixed reality.
