While you’ re working on your Mac, the Dock is the hub. It always has the most important applications ready for you and shows you which apps are currently open. However, not only the screen resolution can vary depending on the Mac model, but also the standard size of the dock. We would, therefore, like to show you three ways to adjust the size. In addition to two permanent versions, Apple also provides an interactive magnification.
To resize the dock directly
Before you struggle your way through countless menus, you can easily resize the dock icons. To do this, move the mouse pointer to the vertical line between the apps and the trash so that a double arrow appears. Now hold down the left mouse button and drag the pointer up or down to enlarge or reduce the dock.
Adjust the dock using the settings – even temporarily
Alternatively and with more sensitivity, you can use the settings on your Mac computer. To do this, click on the Apple logo in the menu bar at the top of the screen and then select “System settings”. Then click on “Dock”. Use the slider at the top to set the “Size”.
If you would like to use a small dock, but do not want to do without the comfort of large icons, then place a tick in front of “Enlargement”. You can also adjust the zoom factor. Note that the “Magnification” control must be set to a higher value than the “Size” above it in order to use the function. If you now move the mouse pointer over the dock, the dock icons will automatically enlarge.
Tip: The Dock settings offer you some useful options. We recommend that you activate the “Show display for open programs” function.
