Apple’s next MacBook Air could feature a new OLED panel, according to analyst Ross Young. Apparently, the screen size won’t change, but the panel technology will.
MacBook Air to have an OLED screen
New information about the next MacBook Air suggests that Apple will make the leap to OLED display technology.
Sources suggest that the MacBook Air model will get new displays, but not until 2024. The 13.3-inch display will be the same size but made of OLED with ProMotion technology.
OLED panels have self-illuminating pixels and don’t require their own backlighting, which is why they tend to be the best and most expensive panels. These panels are also said to offer better image quality and higher contrast than the current MacBooks.
These OLED panels will not only be found in these models, but also in Apple laptops with 15-inch screens. However, we don’t know if these more expensive OLED panels will affect the final price of the laptop, but it’s likely that they will.
In 2023, Apple should announce the M3 models, and in 2024 it would be the turn of the M4 models to get the new panels, a line of laptops that would be based on TSMC’s 3nm node hardware.
That’s what we know at the moment, and it’s an indication that OLED panels are becoming more popular in the PC world and in the smart TV space. We’ll keep you posted on the latest.
