Mac OS 10.14 Mojave: the DVD player

Apple has updated the DVD player included in the system in Mac OS 10.14 Mojave, although many of us thought it might simply remove it. The application has been compiled to 64-bit, with support for AppKit and additional support for Macs with Touch Bar has been added in addition to changing its icon.

The application, however, is no longer in the Applications folder to use a system-related location in the Core Services folder:

/System/Library/CoreServices/Applications

Just because the application is not available directly in the Applications folder does not mean that users can create an alias in their Dock to be able to run the application directly. By default, when you connect an external optical drive and insert this type of support, the application runs automatically.

The new icon, on the other hand, is not so new either and is just a change from the traditional icon to the icon Apple has been using to identify an optical disc.
