During the IFA technology fair held in Berlin these days, LG decided on the image area with the presentation of the first OLED television with 8k resolution. The world’s first OLED 8K (7680×4320) television from LG is now a reality. In particular, it has 88 inches and 33 million self-luminous pixels that represent the company’s recognized pure black with the contrast level offered by this and which already defines OLED displays. The LG is proposing to multiply the number of OLEDs on the market by two in 2018 and to exceed 9 million units in 2022.
It is difficult to find a large amount of 4K content today, not to speak of 8K content, which will undoubtedly prevent a short-term takeover. Internet speed will also be a limitation for the entire 8K content ecosystem, as 8K streaming content requires four times more pixels than 4K streams as with most modern connections, this is currently scarce and impossible.
The first OLED 8K TV
“The first OLED 8K TV is a milestone in display technology and represents its development. If OLED 4K TVs have already revolutionized the television industry, LG’s OLED 8K will do the same,” said Brian Kwon, president of LG Home Entertainment Company.
These are the same problems that 4K suffered in the early years, and LG is confident that its 8K OLED displays will play an “important role in the transformation of the television industry”, just as 4K does. Ultra-premium display technology will inevitably reach consumers in general even though it may take some time to become standard.
This new 88-inch OLED and 8K LG TV has built-in expansion technology designed to enhance the appearance of 4K content, although at this time the effectiveness of this method is not known, which is identical to the 4K screens in lower resolution images.
The IFA which takes place from 31 August to 5 September will host more than 1,800 exhibitors this year on over 161,000 square meters. According to the experts, the stars of the event will be high-definition televisions such as this OLED 8K, Assistants with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and voice-controlled systems.
