BlackBerry has unveiled a new service called Jarvis. Also, it is a software that will help automakers to test and scan the code they are installing on cars.
Jarvis uses a technique known as static analysis to look for errors in applications, offering manufacturers the information necessary to find those mistakes before they can be exploited by an attacker.
How to use Jarvis?
Autonomous cars depend almost entirely on decisions taken by programs, so a security problem, or a hacker attack on this system, could be fatal. BlackBerry believes that it will be able to lead the security sector in cars: the demand is high, and they have experience with the subject.
Car manufacturers use hundreds of different software components. Also, Jarvis allows scanning even pre-built binaries that did not originate in the company. So, that should help provide more peace of mind.
It continues to emerge from the smartphone market. And is now focusing on a sector that grew a lot when it bought in 2010 QNX. That is an operating system for integrated applications in cars. Although it can also be used in the smart home and medical care.
Jarvis will be available through a software model as a service. Customers will pay for the system according to the amount of data they wish to scan, as indicated by VentureBeat. Although at the moment they have not talked about dates or prices.
