Intel will continue to invest in the 3nm process, despite 7nm outsourcing from TSMC

When we talk about AMD’s success over Intel in recent years, outsourcing CPU manufacturing to TSMC has definitely been a key factor in their growth, and it has allowed them to avoid having to make expensive investments in chip manufacturing themselves. But even as Intel considers outsourcing manufacturing, it will continue to invest in 7nm, 5nm, and 3nm processes.

Intel CEO Bob Swan recently attended an investor conference, the industry is more concerned about the issue of chip outsourcing, this time he still has not come to a clear conclusion, said that Intel is also considering outsourcing 7nm chip manufacturing to a third party, the final decision to be announced in January next year.

Bob Swan pointed out, however, that regardless of what decision is made, Intel’s goal is still to maintain its IDM (Integrated Device Manufacturer) advantage, will not completely abandon chip manufacturing, and will continue to have their own design and their in-house production.

Bob Swan said that we will continue to invest in the 7nm, 5nm process, and in the 3nm process, these three things will not change.

Bob Swan also didn’t specify the production time for the 7nm, 5nm, and 3nm process, the previous 7nm process is expected to be mass-produced in 2021, but now production has been postponed by six months to one year, to 2022.
