Core i9-12900KS is reportedly in Intel’s pipeline, awaiting the arrival of Ryzen processors with 3D V-Cache.
Intel Core i9-12900KS can reach 5.2 GHz with all cores
Videocardz news sources have claimed that Intel is planning to introduce a 12th generation KS processor called Alder Lake. This model would be an improved variant of the current i9-12900K with higher clock speeds and better gaming performance.
The i9-12900KS model can reach clock rates of up to 5.2 GHz across all P-core performance cores. That is 300 MHz more than the i9-12900K.
The rest of the specifications do not seem to differ significantly, so the performance increase is solely due to the increase in clock rates.
Intel logic process development general manager Sanjay Natarajan confirmed that Intel has confirmed that the EUV lithography process can reach the point of use for production, Intel will also quickly move to the process, EUV can simplify many processes flows, reducing the 30-step process to a three-step operation, reducing the possibility of errors
Somehow, Intel wants to compete with the Ryzen with its 3D V-Cache technology, which increases cache memory. AMD wants to increase the gaming performance of its Zen 3 chips, which is to be achieved by increasing the cache in addition to a slight increase in clock speeds. AMD’s increase in cache memory would be substantial, roughly triple the amount of L3 cache memory of the current Ryzen 5000 series.
AMD has promised a 15% increase in gaming performance. Intel’s challenge with the i9-12900KS is to retain the gaming performance crown at the high-end. Will it succeed? This question is still unanswered until the first performance tests of this processor and the new Ryzen are released.
It is also mentioned that this one will also have 30MB of L3 cache and the TDP should remain at 125W (PL1), although it is not sure if PL2 will remain at 241W or change to higher. As for the price, the i9-12900K will have an MSRP of $589 USD, while the i9-12900KS will definitely be a bit higher, and the launch date will probably fall on CES 2022.
