The new Intel baby, the Core i7-8086K, didn’t have to wait long before it was finally tormented. This chip has been mishandled with LN2 in order to know its overclocking potential.
Intel marks the 40th anniversary of the 8086 at the origin of the x86 revolution with the announcement of a special Core i7, the Core i7-8086K Limited Edition. This solution is a boosted version of the current Core i7-8700K.
We find an architecture with 6 physical cores and 12 logical cores thanks to Hyper-Threading technology. This little world comes with a 12 MB L3 cache. Intel has managed despite higher frequencies to maintain the thermal envelope. The TDP does not change and remains at 95 Watts.
Intel offers a base frequency calibrated to 4 GHz but can increase up to 5 GHz depending on circumstances. The presence of the letter K in its denomination indicates an unlocked multiplier coefficient, a quality appreciated by overclockers.

Der8aer tried the adventure to know the potential of the machine. An extreme cooling system capable of reaching -185°C (NL2) was used. Modifications of power supplies are naturally part of the game. This Core i7-8086K has managed to handle 7.24 GHz on all its cores.
The performance is noteworthy but it does not yet allow to exceed the 7.409 GHz achieved by its predecessor, the Core i7-8700K.
