Last week Intel announced some information about its next desktop processor line, Rocket Lake-S. A chip with 8 physical cores appears in a benchmark. We have the first idea of the performance.
The processor giant will introduce its 11th core generation in a few months. These processors are also known as Rocket Lake-S. Deployment is planned for the first quarter of next year. We will find a design called Cypress Cove.
It will not be a novelty in itself, as Cypress Cove is based on Ice Lake. According to promises, a leap in performance is expected with a double-digit increase in CPI. Increasing the frequency will not be the only way to improve the performance of these new processors.
This is exactly what an “unknown” Rocket Lake S reference is added to the user benchmark database. The chip is equipped with 8 computing cores. Its frequency is 4.2 GHz. It competes with the Comet Lake-S processors of the 10th generation.
We got a score of 179 in the single-core tests, an 18% increase over the current Core i9-10900K running at 5.3 GHz (152). Compared to an 8C/16T Comet Lake S model like the Core i7-10700K running at 5.1 GHz (148 points), the difference is 22%. These initial figures are encouraging, although, as always, we must remain cautious.
