Intel Core i5-11400 is 10% faster than i5-10400

Intel Core i5-11400 6-core processor with 12 cores has been discovered, revealing specifications and performance results in the GeekBench 5 application.

The 11th generation desktop core features the Cypress Cove architecture with up to 8 cores and 16 threads. The GPU part is implemented in Xe architecture. Intel says Rocket Lake-S has about 50% more UHD core performance compared to Gen9 cores. Elsewhere, the Gen 11 desktop core has 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes, an integrated USB 3.2 Gen 2*2 controller chip, and support for Intel 500-series chipsets.

The Intel Core i5-11400 is part of the next-generation Rocket Lake-S, which will be launched at the end of March.

Core i5-11400 is a mid-range processor with 6 cores and 12 threads and competes against AMD’s Ryzen 5. The chip determined in the popular benchmark tool works with a base clock of 2.60 GHz and a climb clock of 4.40 GHz. The current i5-10400 has 2.90 GHz with a 4.30 GHz step clock. This CPU has 12 MB of L3 cache, 3 MB of L2 cache and comes with a TDP of 65W. The TDP PL2 should have a power of around 125-150W. Since this is a non-K model, it lacks overclocking capabilities.

The tests in GeekBench 5 are performed on a Gaming Edge MSI Z490M WiFi motherboard in combination with 64 GB DDR4 memory.

In tests, the Intel Core i5-11400 achieves 1247 points with one core and in multi-core tests, the chip comes to 6197 points. Compared to the i5-10400, we have a single-core performance gain of 12% and a multi-core gain of 9%.

Compared to a Core i5-10600K, the i5-11400 is 6% slower with a single core and 14% slower with multiple cores. That’s not bad considering the 10600K is an unlocked model with a rated power of 125W and a PL2 of 225W.

Compared to the Ryzen 5 5600X, the i5 “Rocket Lake-S” cannot keep up in either of the GeekBench 5 tests.

The Rocket Lake-S processors will be released in late March, although the 500 series motherboards will be available sooner.
